Pastoral care is very important to us as a School. We ensure every student at Yarm Sixth Form feels supported throughout their time here with us and develops the life skills needed for beyond School.
We care for the happiness and well-being of our students. We are also strive to help them develop into confident and happy young adults. Above all, our Sixth Form pastoral care programme is there to support and encourage students. Yarm Sixth Form students are ambitious and we share these ambitions.
Each Sixth Form student is allocated a personal tutor who they see at least twice a day. Tutors also have a central role in our pastoral care programme, helping and advising students through their Sixth Form career.
Dr Goodall, Head of Sixth Form and Miss Gamble, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, work closely with each tutor to support students, monitor academic progress and advise on career decisions. We always keep parents informed about student progress and any concerns we might have.
The Deputy Headmaster is the Designated Senior Lead for Safeguarding and Child Protection and the Head of Middle School is responsible for Girls’ Welfare throughout the whole school. Our Emotional Health and Well Being Practitioner is a trained counsellor and available to give support and advice to students.
We allocate Sixth Form students to one of our four School Houses. Our School Houses exist to promote social interaction, charity work, sporting competitions and other events. The vertical House structure, ‘Take a Lead’ programme and Peer Support Mentor Prefect opportunities ensure that students can form links with pupils lower down the School.
The Sixth Form community also plays a leading role in the work of the Houses. Students support the Heads of House in encouraging the participation of younger pupils. The House Officers are chosen from the Sixth Form towards the end of the Lower Sixth year.
Our pastoral care programme is there to support students in School and prepare them for life after Sixth Form. Find out more about how we help students prepare for life after Yarm here.
